Every city has its famous sights that are iconic and which everyone recognises the world over. San Francisco has the Golden Gate Bridge, and its colour and design are instantly viewed as an image associated with this particular US city.

You will no doubt be familiar with how the bridge looks from seeing photos of it in newspapers and magazines, and images on television and in film. But this may not prepare you for the knowledge that it is well over a mile and a half in length. It used to be the longest bridge of its type in the world, but that is no longer the case. A handful of other bridges have surpassed it since it was opened back in 1937.

Many cars and other vehicles pass over the bridge on a daily basis, crossing to and from San Francisco itself and Marin County on the other side, crossing the stretch of water known as the Golden Gate in the process. Not everyone is aware that this stretch of water gave the bridge its iconic name.

With five international airports, numerous rail stations and an internal transport system to rival any other city on earth, London is as easy to get to as it is to get around.

Indeed, there aren’t many major metropolises that cater so well for family holiday as the UK capital city does. London Underground offers an affordable and fast means of getting around a city that is bustling with activity night and day, whilst those with a little more time on their hands may be just as happy hopping on a bus or even walking to the countless top attractions this city has to offer.

London has a reputation for being somewhat expensive and this is probably justified in many respects. That’s not to say there isn’t heaps to do that’s cheap or free that will entertain and engage the whole family.

First of all, there’s the British Museum in central London which is one of the city’s most visited attractions with an average of five million people going through its doors every year. The British Museum is without doubt one of the world’s finest museums and is certainly one of the oldest, having existed in one form or another since 1749. Not only is the grand entrance through the tremendous main gate on Great Russell Street awe-inducing, but upon walking into the giant main hall, you really get the impression that you’re about to encounter something spectacular.

By: Joseph M. MausIt’s cold and dreary out and most of us are starting to think about taking a vacation to a warmer climate. In many cases, this means we’re busy perusing cruise brochures and dreaming of romantic getaways to exotic places. More than four million people cruise annually and with such a large number of passengers on these floating hotels, it is no wonder that accidents and injuries occur frequently. Due to the size of ships today and the many activities they offer, and the thousands of passengers traveling on each ship, you will most likely encounter some potentially dangerous conditions while on your cruise.  Some of the most dangerous conditions that can result in a cruise ship injury actually occur on ship-sponsored excursions in foreign countries.

Cruisejunkie.com is a website that reports on various cruise ship accidents that take place every year.  Their website reports that 40 accidents occurred on just ONE cruise line in 2009 alone.  A sampling of these accidents reported by Cruisejunkie.com show the accidents range from on-board accidents, to on-shore car accidents.

One of the main purposes of travel is to gain experiences that allow us to grow and develop as individuals and it is important that people travel the way that bests suits them at a particular time. For example, I like to go on adventure holidays and this invariably includes a small group and expert guide, and I frequently participate in writing retreats around the world with like-minded people. However for me, the real joy of travelling has always been to take off on my own and just ‘see’ what comes along the way. Of course this can sometimes be fraught with frustrations, difficulties and even dangers.

These range from treks on foot, by bike, and on horseback throughout the Amazon and the Andes. Wherever you want to go, and how ever you want to get there, you will find something to excite your sense of adventure in this spectacular country.

Ecuador is a country of diverse and extreme landscapes, with the magnificent coast vying for your attention against the splendor of the mountains, the wealth of wildlife and the unique plant life of the rainforest. The people here are equally diverse, with European, African, and Asian cultures incorporated into the local culture, alongside traditions brought here from other parts of the Americas.

A visit to Ecuador means an encounter with a range of habitats, which can be explored, either alone or with a guide. Many visitors choose to join a trek on horseback, which offers the chance to travel longer distances than on foot, but with the same close relationship to the surroundings. There are routes that take you through snowy mountains, to the sides of volcanoes, through dense jungle surrounded by the vibrant forest birds and insects and the warm tropical rain. You can hire a bike to race along dirt tracks through breathtaking scenery, or climb some of the most stunning mountains in the world.

So you have decided to take your family on an adventure travel vacation? It can be fun and adventurous but make sure you have a plan that has been carefully thought out if you want your vacation to memorable in a good way.

My kids are easy because I can suggest anything and they will think it is a fun, adventurous vacation idea but not all families are like that. Some kids are hard to please and thus a sit down family discussion might pay off in the long run. Allow everyone to have their input and then plan your adventure accordingly.

There are many things for you consider before you decide on a destination if you have small kids. Is the adventure trip something that they can physically handle? Is it a long drive? Will your destination be outfitted to handle and serve kids? What kind of weather will you run into at your destination. Sure it might be a warm beautiful day where home is but if you are heading north then perhaps you had better make sure all the kids have warm clothing packed and ready… or maybe it is just the opposite. What about medication? I have a child that is diabetic so we have to pack extra bottles of insulin in case we somehow loose one. All these things you will have to consider.

People spend the entire year earning money and saving a certain percentage of that so that they can go to some overseas destination along with the other members of their family. In fact there is nothing better to visit a country with a tropical climate during the winter holidays.
